DEAFENING

I just finished reading an amazing novel, and I consider it a "must read." The writer gives the reader a closeup view of deafness and how a deaf child sees the world. The story takes place in the early 1900s, and it is a tale of war and love, as well. The author, Frances Itani, is an acclaimed writer whose grandmother was deafened by a bout with Scarlet Fever at the age of eighteen months. I highly recommend that you read this fascinating account.
